From rain covers for Tumpak Sewu to jackets for Bromo, here is why I always point travelers toward the Indonesian brand that’s now taking on the Swiss Alps.

"Do you know where I can get a rain cover?"

A Dutch traveler asked me while I was leading a walking tour for him through Kajoetangan. He’s heading to Tumpak Sewu tomorrow and needs to keep his backpack dry. Since we were already in Kajoetangan, I walked him over to the Kalibre outlet inside the Gramedia bookstore nearby. It was the quickest way for him to grab what he needed.

Malang is a major transit point for Bromo and Tumpak Sewu. While waiting for their turn to head out, many travelers spend their time hanging out or joining walking tours, and they often ask me stuff like that about their gear.

Another day in Jodipan Rainbow Village, a traveler from the UK asked me where to buy a jacket. I explained that in Malang there are plenty of outdoor shops like Kalibre or Arei, but my top recommendation is always Eiger.

Why? Because Eiger is built for "Tropical Adventure." Their products are designed for tropical conditions, providing high-quality, durable equipment tailored for the humidity and rough terrain we have here. You can find everything there like backpacks, footwear, and accessories built for the outdoors.

"Eiger is basically the gold standard in Indonesia," I told him. "It’s an Indonesian brand started in 1989. A total legend, mate!"

I was so proud when I told him that Eiger even has a store in Interlaken, Switzerland, opened in March 2023. It’s pretty cool to see an Indonesian brand standing tall right next to the Swiss Alps. It just goes to show that their gear is truly world-class. Even though they started with the tropical climate in mind, their products are now built to handle the high standards and freezing temperatures of the Swiss mountains.

In Malang there are at least five Eiger stores, but I recommend the one inside the big shopping center, Malang Olympic Garden (MOG), so you can also find any other stuff you might need.
