Two Things I’ve Learned From Dutch Travelers About Taking Travel to the Next Level
The best travel advice doesn't always come from a guidebook, but from the connections we make.

1. The power of community
"I will recommend you to the Dutchies in Java WhatsApp group."
A Dutch traveler told me after a walking tour in Jodipan Rainbow Village.
I didn't realize the massive impact of that community until about three hours later, when I received a WhatsApp message saying, "We would like to join your walking tour this afternoon."
In that moment, I realized the difference between marketing and connection. Advertising sells a product, but a recommendation shares an experience that someone found interesting and wants you to have as well.
In a world full of advertisements, that is the power of community.

2. The travel tracking App
In that same spirit of connection, it was a Dutch traveler who introduced me to Polarsteps, a travel-tracking app developed in the Netherlands. And let me tell you, it's amazing.
I've been using it to map the stunning tree tunnels in Malang, and it made me realize something: Instagram captures the scenery, but a tracker captures the odyssey. It’s incredible to see the soul of the route and watch the whole journey come alive on the map.

To me, this app is a perfect example of how the Dutch truly know how to contribute to the heart of a traveler. And whether it’s a group chat or a digital map, these tools remind me that travel is better when it’s shared and deeply remembered.
