"Darman, do you know where we can buy traditional cakes?"
I was recently asked by some travellers, and I recommended visiting the Oro-Oro Dowo or Klojen traditional markets.
"You’ll find many traditional cakes there" I told them, "including Kue Lumpur, the famous Indonesian Mud Cake."
"Mud?" they asked, looking confused.
I laughed because I knew exactly what they were thinking.
I explained that the name doesn't refer to the flavor—it's about the texture.
Unlike other cakes that can be dry, Kue Lumpur is famous for being silky and moist. Mashed potato is the secret ingredient that keeps the cake soft, giving it a 'mud-like' consistency instead of a crumbly one. It's also made with coconut milk and eggs.
"This is one of my favorite traditional cakes, and if you want the best one, Kue Lumpur Arab Legenda is the answer!"

Top-Down Heat mimics an oven by providing heat from both the bottom (stove) and the top (charcoal).
The charcoal adds a subtle, smoky fragrance that you cannot get from a regular gas stove. It creates a slightly firm, "baked" skin on top while keeping the inside incredibly moist and molten.

I recommend trying Lumpur Cakes topped with grated cheese.
From the moment the batter hits the molds, it’s a 30-minute journey to the perfect Kue Lumpur, ready to serve and enjoy. And when you taste it, you'll understand why 'Legenda' (legend) is in the name.

There are two locations; I suggest the one by the city square (Alun-Alun)—it’s much more central.
