"What is it like when flooding happens?"
That is the question I often get asked when I lead a walking tour in Jodipan Colourful Village, which is located right next to the Brantas River.
To answer that, I recorded a short video and took photos from the same spot to show you the before and after, contrasting the village during the flood and after the water receded.

As you can see, when I recorded this video on August 20, 2025, it was only light rain here in Jodipan.
"So, why did Jodipan get flooding?"
Basically, this type of flood, which is known locally as banjir kiriman (flash flood), starts with super heavy rain upstream in Batu City, where the Brantas River begins. That heavy rain makes the river totally overflow its banks up there. All that extra water then rushes straight downstream into Malang, flooding neighborhoods right by the river, including the Jodipan Colourful Village.
"Are the houses safe?"
Yes, they are.
And since I get so many questions about the Jodipan Colourful Village that require more context than I can provide here, I invite you to join my walking tour for the complete, detailed story, and dive deep with me.

Tips
Be a traveler who goes deep; don't be a tourist who just visits.
Join my walking tour and let's look closer: more than just colourful houses.
