Here in Indonesia, because we're right on the equator, we divide the afternoon into two different parts: Siang and Sore.

Siang is when the sun is at its hottest during the midday, typically from around 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

And as the sun goes down and the temperature gets cooler, we call it Sore, which is generally from around 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

So, when travellers join my walking tour in Malang during the Siang (afternoon), I always tell them not to worry about the sun because we will walk under nice, shady big trees in parts of the city. And when you see, you'll understand why!

The city of Malang has many "tree tunnels." In some parts of this city, you can find big trees shading the pavement, and they are beautiful.

Here are some photos I took with my smartphone camera.

I absolutely love these shady spots, so what started as just me taking photos of them quickly turned into an obsession!

I realized they aren't just great for pictures; they are practical for beating the Siang heat. That's why I decided to go a step further:

Tap here to find them on the map.

I tracked and mapped the Tree Tunnels in Malang using Polarsteps so you can find them easily too.

Tips

  1. If you want a fun and easy way to map your own journeys, just like I did for the Tree Tunnels, I recommend checking out Polarsteps.
