In Malang, it is usually hard to find a good coffee shop that opens at 6:00 AM. If you are an early bird like me, I highly recommend All About Koffie by Kawisari.
Located on the historic Kajoetangan Street, this small coffee shop is a vital part of Malang’s past. You can feel the heritage in the air the moment you walk through the door.

The cashier told me this building was originally Ms. Fung’s Salon before the family converted it into a coffee shop. Looking at the old photo on the wall, I could see how the area looked before the historic buildings were replaced by soulless new ones.

I like the way they keep the architectural elements original. They even reuse the furniture from the original salon. Looking inside an old display cabinet, I found several types of coffee beans—for example, this premium Java Robusta, which is roasted traditionally with wood instead of gas.

"The coffee beans come directly from our own plantation," the cashier told me. "It is 100% organic."

I later read on the wall that this isn't just any coffee plantation. Established in 1870, it is one of the oldest in East Java and was the first private coffee company to open after the Dutch Cultivation System ended.
I find it fascinating that since I started my walking tours in Malang in May 2025, I have met many Dutch travelers who don't even know what the Cultivation System was. It shows there is so much history hidden here that people just walk past.

Another interesting product they offer is this organic cascara; it is a tea made from dried Java coffee cherry skins. According to the packaging, it is a great source of antioxidants that enhances digestive function, reduces constipation, and improves overall well-being.
So, if you are traveling in Malang and need a perfect morning coffee, All About Koffie by Kawisari is the answer. Afterward, you can enjoy a stroll along the revitalized pavement of Kajoetangan. It’s inspiring to see how preserving the district's history has encouraged new businesses to move in and restore these old buildings, just like this one.
